Of Indelible Layers
“Of Indelible Layers” is a profound installation created in 2016 by Vasken Brudian and the Ardēan team in Glendale, California, USA. The work draws its title from the word “indelible”, taken from St. Gregory of Narek’s “Book of Lamentations”, with selected passages of prayers serving as conceptual foundations for the paintings.
Each artwork is composed of interwoven layers of imagery, inspired by the richness of Armenian cultural heritage. Motifs include stone carvings, architectural ornaments, khachkars (cross-stones), and a palette derived from illuminated manuscripts, creating a visual language that is both historical and deeply personal.
Through these layered compositions, the installation reflects the enduring memory, spiritual depth, and artistic resilience of Armenian culture, inviting viewers to engage with the subtle interplay of history, devotion, and expression.
