Hokis Performance
“Hokis” Multi-Media Musical Performance
Stage Design: Vasken Brudian / Ardēan
On October 28, 2016, the AGBU-sponsored musical spectacular HOKIS debuted at the
renowned New York City Center, captivating a sold-out audience. This vibrant
performance highlighted the extraordinary talents of over 70 young dancers, musicians,
acrobats, and technology students from the Mother See of Holy Etchmiadzin & AGBU
Nork Children’s Center and the TUMO Center for Creative Technologies in Armenia.
The story of HOKIS unfolds as an allegory for the Armenian nation, told through the
lives of two young lovers. Their journey begins together, is disrupted by separation, and
culminates in a triumphant reunion—a powerful reflection of resilience and unity.
The Armenian premieres of the performance were held in Yerevan at the Alexander Spendiaryan National Academic Opera and Ballet Theatre, and in Gyumri at the State Drama Theatre named after Vardan Achemyan.
