St. Gregory of Narek was a tenth-century Armenian monk, poet, mystical philosopher, and a theologian. The importance of his writings is unparalleled for the Armenian Apostolic Church. The “Book of Lamentations” or as he liked to call the “encyclopedia of prayer for all nations” is a unique cohesion of the soul-invigorating prayers that are considered to possess healing and protection powers. Thus, it has become an Armenian tradition to place prayers of Narek near the bedside or under the pillow of a newborn child. With this tradition in mind, we were inspired to incorporate slices of the prayers in our designs.
