A Sharakan (an Armenian hymn) is a spiritual song, or a complete series of songs performed during specific days of the liturgical calendar. Armenian chant consists mainly of hymns. The first written record is from the 9th and 10th centuries. The Sharakans started being independent spiritual songs in the 5th century and were called ktsurd of ktsord in ancient Armenia.
